Please don’t sit on gravestones. Please don’t sit on headstones or footstones. No matter if they are old or new. No matter if you want a good photo. Please, don’t disrespect the dead by sitting on their tombstone.

Also don’t sit on headstones because it can be fuckin’ dangerous. Headstones are often held up by metal bars that attach them to their base. Metal over time will rust and weaken, so stones, especially tall stones, become a topple hazard. People have been seriously injured and even killed by fooling around on large stones that didn’t have any support left inside and fell over on top of them. These things can weigh hundreds of pounds and have hard edges, they WILL destroy whatever limb they land on.

You’re also risking damaging the grave itself, which is disrespectful to the family and to any caretakers and art historians who study or maintain the place. Look with your eyes, not your hands, and certainly not with your ass.

^ Had someone teenage Impaled in my town a few years back bc she was sitting on a tombstone in one of our older graveyards and it crumbled. It was only her hand but jeez it was bad.

Do not sit on or deface tombstones/gravesites. Looking @ you, teenage “grave witches”.

FOR REAL. IF you want to work with the dead, visit their graves, clean up trash in the graveyard, clean off vegetation that is over growing on tomb stones! Take photos OF the stones, remember the people, celebrate their lives, say their names.
