Let me make something clear: this is not calling out anyone in particular, because you know who you are. You know exactly who you are, and it’s more than one. It’s many.
This is about creators and usage of their creations in fan contributions when given permission, and their reactions when something is represented incorrectly.
When someone works their hardest to ensure your character is written and is represented correctly, that’s more than enough. When they try their hardest to ensure it’s satisfactory as much as a human possibly can, that’s more than enough. When we flip through hours and hours of past history related to said character and study for days, that’s more than enough. When they even consider your character for anything, that’s more than enough.
When you give them shit for not writing or representing it correctly after they’ve poured their heart into trying to get it right: that’s not, under any circumstances, mature or okay for you to do. When you’re passive-agressive about their representation and writing after they’ve studied for days and asked you questions upon questions before it’s finalized: that’s not, under any circumstances, mature or okay for you to do.
It’s not growth. It’s not feedback. It’s being disgusting; don’t you dare try to disguise it.
Appreciate the people who care about trying, because continuing to force perfectionism on others who have tried hard enough to get it perfect for you or another person will leave you alone with your own thoughts and cold, pointless anger in the end.
We’re in this fandom together. Don’t put others down or verbally abuse them because someone who tried hard “didn’t do enough,” to do your or another character justice. They tried, perhaps they got some attributes here and there wrong, but they tried and that’s what matters.
You, however, have not tried enough to be a decent enough human being if you’re being abusive and need to start taking your attitude seriously and considering the impact of your words and actions on others when representing and writing history on the most important character of all:

I’m writing this to talk about the difference its been making with my daughter and I.
My beautiful, charming, and very kind 9 year old daughter has autism and ADHD. From a young age I was aware of it and she’s had the advantage of attending a special preschool for children with disabilities. While she doesn’t have the melt downs she used to thanks to speech and occupational therapy she still has very strong emotions we’ve been trying to teach her to gain control of.
One of the best tools I’ve had of trying to address her behaviors has been through the Steven Universe song <i>here comes a thought</i>. She’s learning to identify her feelings, watch them pass, honor them, and let them go without holding onto them and thinking it’s the end of the world because let me tell you, when this child thinks she’s in trouble, she feels like she’s messed up her entire life, often times over things as simple as me asking to shut drawer she left open or pick up her things. It often depends on the day she’s having, my own emotions and how I convey them, and the over all emotional atmosphere of the house.
Today we talked about one part of the song in particular that my friend Addy told me about that is literally perfectly timed to take coming breaths in and out.

I saw the lights go off in her eyes in understanding and we practiced it together to the song to help her.
I really don’t know if this is something that’s been shared or addressed before as I’m not a participant in the Steven Universe Fandom, but being able to see my amazing child under stand a healthy way to address the emotions that so often consume her brought me to tears.
Maybe it’ll help someone else out there with their child.

You know what else I don’t get? When they apologize for short updates. It’s like: look at these new words I gave you! Sorry I didn’t give you even more free words. Bro, that’s at least two words that I did not have yesterday. For free. Dude. Thank you.
And another thing: when people drop out of nowhere with a surprise update and then apologize for it taking a while. Like, dude, I wasn’t expecting anything, and you gave me words. I thought this fic was abandoned, but wait: there’s more. You just popped in and reminded me that this is a Good Fic that I should probably reread. You made my goshdarn day.
Basically fanfic writers are under no obligation to publish anything so when they do update it’s always a net positive because the story is longer now, and I have something to read, so thank you so much to everyone who writes fic at whatever pace or quantity they want.
Outside of Tumblr, I’ve honestly only ever heard the phrase “boys will be boys“ to mean “boys will be lovable goofballs who do dumb shit to entertain themselves”, not “boys will be rapists”.
And additionally when men are acting like boys.
I’ve mostly heard this phrase after “Hey mom watch this!”

Us dudes have terrible risk-management instincts (likely due to evolution deciding cavemen needed to teeter that line between bravery and stupidity to hunt the kind of animals that lived back and feed their families)
So we tend to be the ones doing stupid and potentially dangerous shit that seemed cool at the time to amuse outselves
I’ve never heard “boys will be boys” being used in context of guys being creepy or rapists. I’ve always heard the term used when guys do something really stupid, or when they do something dumb but it looks kind of cool.
Seriously though, if anyone unironically uses “boys will be boys” to justify creepy behavior, they’re awful people and need their asses kicked.
