A Post about Current Happenings (TM)

The Tumblr Purge has it’s own fanlore page now which I think offers a good overview of what’s currently going on, with cited sources throughout the article (worth looking at imho). It also talks about rumours and unconfirmed things.

Furthermore, here is a list of fandom blogs that have been deleted, deleted and since reinstated, or that have something weird going on. You can message the person running it to add or change information. (This one can be painful to read. I know/followed a lot of people on this list…)

Then, some fandom and other tags are currently empty. Here is a possible explanation as to why, although it’s of course not official. It sounds plausible to me at least. It might also be something else though.

Finally, here is tumblr’s help site of how to backup your blog, which I strongly recommend everyone to do. Due to the fact that we have zero communication from tumblr we currently don’t know how things will proceed, but there are some decisions made that seem to indicate that tumblrs policies towards certain types of nsfw content or even nsfw content as a whole might change. It might be a bug and blow over – or it might not.

Be safe. Back up what you can.

Be aware that this might take a while and result in huge files. My main blog has over 14 000 posts and I ended up with a 26GB zip file. That’s not including my nsfw side blog, I had to do that one extra. Make sure you have enough space and time to archive your stuff. You may have to wait a few hours for the zip file to even be made ready for download. This is normal. You will receive an email once it’s ready to be downloaded.

If you cannot do an actual backup for any reason, I recommend you to save at least some of the posts you consider most important to you manually. It’s work, but it’s better than losing everything.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with people, remember to post alternative ways to contact you and look for the handles of others. Get in touch now while it’s still easy. If it blows over you don’t lose anything but a few minutes of your time for having done so. If it doesn’t blow over, it can be one of the only ways to get in touch.

Remember that fandom has been chased off and targeted before. Geocities going down. Private fic archives getting deleted. The fall of delicious. Chatrooms getting zapped. Forums pulled out from underneath us. Blogging services kicking us out. Strikethrough. It sucks, but we survived then, we will survive it again. Keep calm, preserve whatever you can, and brace yourselves. Hopefully, it will work out.

If not and it all goes down in flames, we’ll rise from the ashes as we always have.

I thought this was important. Back up your blogs just in case; I know I’ll be doing that this weekend.

I’m sure most of you have noticed the “undertail” tag is gone from search now. I know that the theory is that Safe Mode is permanently on or something, but mine says it’s turned off. So I think what they mean by this is that all nsfw tags aren’t currently searchable. And not just the main search; you can’t even search someone’s blog for that tag. Whoops wrong about that one; my blog’s just being weird

While this is going on, remember that reblogs are important because things really aren’t showing up for people now, so it’s difficult to spread content otherwise.
