The mechanism in place that allows some lizards to regrow tails is incredible, but not foolproof. Lizards may accidentally “re-grow” multiple tails from one wound, especially in instances where the tail was only partially injured. The result is sometimes like the San Diego alligator lizard above [Elgaria multicarinata]. Images by Joshua Nyhus.
